Topic 5 Newtons First And Sedond Laws Flashcards
What does Newton’s first law state
A resultant force is needed to make something start moving speed up or slow down
Newton’s first law
If the resultant force of a stationary object zero the object will remain stationary if the result of a moving object is zero it’ll just carry on moving at the same velocity
When will the velocity change
If there is a non-0 resultant force acting on an object
What will a non zero resultant force produce
Acceleration in the direction of the force
Five different forms of acceleration
Starting
stopping
speeding up
slowing down
and changing direction
What is acceleration proportional to
The resultant force
The large the resultant force acting on a object
The more the object accelerates
What are the force and the acceleration
Directly proportional
What is acceleration inversely proportional to
The mass of the object
What will an object with a larger mass accelerate
Less than one with a small mass
What is newton second law
The net force is equal to mass times acceleration
