Topic 5 Changes In Momemtum ***** Flashcards
What does a force cause to the momentum
Causes the momentum of an object to change
What does a bigger force do to momentum
Cause it to change faster
What happens to momentum in a closed system
It is conserved
What happens when there’s a nonzero resultant force acting on a moving object
It causes the velocity change this means there is a change in momentum
What is the force causing the change equal to
The rate of change of momentum
What happens if an event to changes very quickly e.g. a car crash
Forces on the body will be very large and more likely to cause injury
The longer it takes for change your momentum
The smaller the rate of change of momentum and smaller the force and less injuries
What is safety features do cars have
Crumple zones - cumple on impact increasing time taken for car to stop
Seat belts stretch - I’m seeing time taken for wearer to stop
Air bags- befor you hit dashboard they inflate compressing air inside it slows you down more gradually then if you had just hit hard dash board
Bike helements
Contain crushable layer of foam which helps to lengthen the time taken for your head to stop in crash
Reduces impact on brain
Crash mats and cushioned playground flooring
Increase time taken for you to stop if you fall on them bacause they are made from soft compressible materials
