Definition of lifting/transfer
Transfer: moving of one person from one surface to another surface
Lifting; carry for lower to higher position
Importance for transfer/lifting
Protect pt from falling
Explain each steps as therapist
Let pt see what direction he/she moving
Be sure pt use his/her own function and strength
3 level of transfer
Independant- perform all aspect of transfer, include set up, safe manner without assistance
Assisted- pt actively participate but need assistance
Dependant- pt not participate, assistance perform all aspect of transfer
Stand by assist
Pt can perform activity without assist but not consistently
Close guarding assist
Pt can perform activity without assist but sometimes need physical assistance
Contact guard assist
Pt can perform activity but often need physical assistance
Minimal assist
Pt perform activity 75% and need guidance for initiation/ balance
Moderate assist
Pt perform activity 50% and need guidance for initiation/ balance
Maximal assist
Pt perform activity less than 25% and need guidance for initiation/balance
Explain about gait belt
Wrap around pt waist
Control pt movement
Kept close
Not become handle
Not too lose/too tight

One person pivot transfer
2 person transfer
Sliding transfer (6 atau lebih)

Tips/precaution of lifting/transfer
Bend the knee and hip not waist to prevent back injury
Keep wide BoS
When turning, pivot feet not waist
Wear shoes low heels/ non slip
