Topic 4 - Lesson 5 Flashcards
Chloroplasts
These organelles are the site of photosynthesis, they convert light energy into carbohydrates such as glucose
Cell Wall
Made of the insoluble polysaccharide cellulose it offers strength, structure and protection to plant cells
Tonoplasts
They regulate what enters and leaves the vacuole
Amyloplasts
They contain starch
Middle Lamella
Found in the middle and in between cell walls, they are made of a cement like substance called pectin which glues plant cells together
Plasmodesmata
They aid the movement of substances between cells
Pit
Small holes through the cell wall which allow some substances to pass from cell to cell
Vacuole
Contains cell sap
Cellulose
Cellulose is a polymer of glucose and composed of beta glucose it is a straight unbranched chain and its function is to strengthen the cell wall
