Topic 4 - Lesson 2 Flashcards
VMSASIAS
V = Variation
M= Mutation
S = Selection Pressure
A = Advantage
S = Survival
I = Inheritance
A = Allele Frequency
S = Speciation
What is the Hardy-Weinberg Equation
p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1
Reproductive Isolation
Species can change over time due to environment selection Pressure
The species become physically separated(geographic isolation)
Different selection pressures cause different adaptations
Groups can no longer breed (reproductive isolation
A new species is created (speciation)
Evolution Of Giraffes
There was variation within the species of giraffes, some were tall due to a mutation. This mutation was advantageous as they were able to reach the leaves to eat. The trees were the selection pressure as if a giraffe was too small it wouldn’t eat and would eventually starve meaning only the tall giraffes survive meaning they would reproduce and their offspring would inherit the allele for the mutation. This would alter the allele frequency as more tall giraffes would be born
