Topic 4 Element 2 Flashcards
Planning Propagation
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans:
stock plant management
Ensuring that there are sufficient numbers of plants to use for propagation and that they are maintained in optimum condition (pest and disease-free). Keep weeds to a minimum. Prune as required.
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans:
capacity
By carefully anticipating the final numbers and producing an overall plan you can assess and if necessary smooth any areas where excess capacity might occur (for example room in a heated greenhouse). This can also assist with ensuring that you have enough equipment and products such as pots and compost.
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans: timings of operations
This is to ensure that the length of time between each activity is clearly and accurately recorded. This will help to ensure that there is sufficient time to complete a task before the next one is ready to commence.
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans: germination times
Research the likely time that germination will take so that all the remaining tasks are timed to complete immediately after that.
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans: rooting times
Researched to ensure that a reasonable amount of time is set aside to complete this task.
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans: resource requirements
Excluding staff understand what physical resources (space, products, heating) requirements and that they are budgeted for and ordered in sufficient time.
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans: labour requirements
Understanding how many and want level of expertise of staff are required at various times. This needs to take into account that there may be limited variability to labour as staff will have contracted hours and days.
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans: techniques to be used
Conformation of exactly how best to propagate the plants required.
Describe the following components of annual propagation plans: pest and disease control and hygiene
Well organised, clean and tidy environments
