Q

What are kidneys

A

Kidneys are paired organs that are bean-shaped and reddish-brown in colour that are covered by a capsule of fibrous connective tissue and masses of adipose tissue and the concave side of the kidney has a depression where a renal artery enters and a renal vein and ureter exit the kidney

16
Q

How is blood transported to the glomerulus

A

Afferent arterioles transport blood from the renal artery to the glomerulus

17
Q

How does blood leave the glomerulus

A

It is carried away from the efferent arteriole

18
Q

What does the efferent arteriole divide into

A

It divides to form the peritubular capillaries with surround the rest of the nephron

19
Q

How is blood carried to the renal vein

A

Blood goes into a venule that carries blood into the renal vein

20
Q

What is a diuretic

A

A diuretic is any compound that increases urine volume

21
Q

What are kidney stones

A

Kidney stones are hard granules made of several minerals and can form in the renal pelvis

22
Q

What is hemodialysis

A

Hemodialysis is used for patients with renal failure, they are hooked up to a machine and the patients blood is passed through a membranous tube that is in contact with a dialysis solution
