Q

What is alcohol abuse?

A

Alcohol is a drug, like any other drugs it can have harmful effects if it is taken in large quantities of very frequently.

Alcohol slows body processes down, and so having an alcoholic drink will make people react more slowly. This can be dangerous when driving, operating machinery, or doing anything which require concentration in order to avoid danger. Alcohol is processed in the liver, but it is a poison, so prolonged or excessive use can cause serious liver damage.

Excessive alcohol consumption can also lead to disease of the kidney and the stomach.
