Topic 1 - Variation: Continuous and discontinuous variation Flashcards
What’s the difference between continuous and discontinuous variation?
Continuous vaiation is when individuals in a population vary within a range and there are no distinct categories. Discontinuous variation is when there are two or more distinct categories and each individual falls into only one of them.
You measure the height of everyone in your class and draw a line graph showing the results. Describe what the graph would look like.
It would be a normal distribution curve that would be symmetrical around the mean.
What does a normal distribution curve look like? What kind of variation does it show?
It’s a bell-shaped curve with the highest point in the middle. It shows continuous variation.
