Topic 1 Types Of Data Flashcards
What is raw data?
Data that hasn’t been processed yet
What is quantitative data?
Anything that can be measured by a number
E.g height, shoe size or time taken
It is EASIER to analyse than QUALITATIVE data
What is qualitative data?
Data that uses words to describe it rather than numbers (non numerical)
It is categorical data that can be put into categories
E.g gender, eye colour and car colour
Can often be subjective and is HARDER to analyse than QUANTITIVE data
What type of data must it be to be either continuous or discrete?
QUANTITIVE
What is DISCRETE data?
Data that can only take certain values on a number line
E.g number of people, shoe size, number of pages in a book
What is continuous data?
Data that can take any value in an interval and could always be measured more accurately
E.g height, time taken, weight
What are categorical scales?
Give names or numbers to classes of qualitative data so that the data can be more easily processed
Puts data into groups
What are ordinal scales?
Ordinal (rank) scales five numbers to the classes which can be ordered in a meaningful way
E.g ordered by how much you like something
What is bivariate data
What can bivariate data be
What is multi variate data
What can multivariate data be
