What has kinetic energy
Anything that is moving has kinetic energy store. Energy is transferred to it when it speeds up and is transferred away when it slows down.
Kinetic energy store depends on the object mass and speed, the greater the mass and the faster it’s going the more energy there will be in the store
Kinetic energy equation
Ek = 1/2mv^2
Ek = kinetic energy (j). m= mass (kg). V= speed (m/s)
What has gravitational potential energy
Lifting an object in gravitational field requires work, this causes transfer of energy to the gravitational potential energy store.
The higher the object is lifted the more energy is transferred.
The amount of energy in the store depends on the height and strength of the gravitational field the object within.
Gravitational potential equation
Ep = mgh
Ep = gravitational potential (j) m= mass(kg) G= gravitational field strength(N/kg). H= height (m)
What energy do objects falling transfer
Energy from the gravitational potential energy store is transferred to the kinetic energy store.
For a falling object when there’s no resistance, energy lost from the G.P.E store = energy to kinetic energy store
What has elastic potential energy
Stretching or squashing of object can transfer energy to its elastic potential energy store.
As long as the limit of proportionality has not been exceeded the equation can be used
Elastic potential energy equation
So long as limit of proportionality isn’t exceeded
Ee = 1/2ke^2
Ee = elastic potential (j). K= spring constant (N/m). e= extension (m)

The greater the mass and the faster it is going
