What is development plasticity
the natural changes that take place in all peoples brains as we mature older and have new experiences.
What is adaptive plasticity?
The ability of a brain to compensate for lost function in the event of a brain injury.
- it explains how the brain changes when we learn something new
Processes of Plasticity
- Synaptogenesis
- Rerouting
- Sprouting
What is Synaptogenesis Plasticity?
The formation of new connections between neurons in the nervous system
What is Rerouting Plasticity?
When an undamaged neuron that last lost connection with an active neuron may seek a new active neuron to connect with
What is Sprouting Plasticity?
Growth of axon and dendrite branches to enable the neuron to make new connections
What is Aphasia
The impairment of language, affecting the production of comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write
Broca’s Aphasia
- cant produce fluent speech
- can understand others
Wernicke’s Aphasia
- Can’t produce coherent speech that makes sense
- Can’t understand others (comprehend)
- Are unaware of speech issues
- Fleunt speech which doesnt make sense
Fluent speech that doesn’t make sense
Wernicke’s Aphasia
Difficult to produce fluent speech, limited language, can understand other peoples speech
