To Sleep Flashcards
1
Q
O soft embalmer
A
of the still midnight,
2
Q
Shutting,
A
with careful fingers and benign,
3
Q
Our gloom-pleas’d eyes,
A
embower’d from the light,
4
Q
Enshaded in
A
forgetfulness divine:
5
Q
O soothest Sleep! if so it please thee, close
A
In midst of this thine hymn my willing eyes,
6
Q
Or wait the “Amen,” ere thy poppy throws
A
Around my bed its lulling charities.
7
Q
Then save me, or the passed day will shine
A
Upon my pillow, breeding many woes,—
8
Q
Save me from curious Conscience, that still lords
A
Its strength for darkness, burrowing like a mole;
9
Q
Turn the key deftly in the oiled wards,
A
And seal the hushed Casket of my Soul.
