Titration practical Flashcards
1
Q
What is a titration used for?
A
- Used to find an unknown concentraction of an acid or alkali
2
Q
What is the method of a titration?
A
- Place 25cm3 of alkali in a conical flask on a white tile (using a pipette)
- Add indicator to conical flask
- Fill burette with acid and note starting vol
- Release acid slowlu and swirl conical flask until colour change occurs
- Note end volume of acid
- Repeat until you get concordant results and calculate average acid used
3
Q
What are the different indicators and the different colour changes that take place (alkali to acid)?
A
- Litmus = blue to red
- Phenopthalien = pink to colourless
- Methyl orange = yellow to red
