Periodic table groups Flashcards
1
Q
What happens to the reactivity as you go down group 1?
A
- Reactivity increases
- Atomic size increases so furthest electron gets further away. So electrostatic force of attraction between positive nucleus and negative electron gets weaker and outer electron lost more easily
2
Q
What happens to MP and BP as you go down group 1?
A
- MP and BP decreases
3
Q
What happens to reactivity going down group 7?
A
- Reactivity decreases
- Atomic size increases so furthest shell gets further away and shells cause shielding. Therefore, harder for nucleus to attract another electron and gain 1 electron
4
Q
What happens to MP and BP going down group 7?
A
- MP and BP increases
5
Q
What happens to MP abd BP going down group 8?
A
- MP and BP increases
