Tissues Flashcards
What are the types of tissues
Nervous tissue, Muscular tissue, epithelial tissue and connective tissue
What is the function of the nervous tissue?
It is specialized for communication of electrical and chemical signals within the body
What types of cells are found in the nervous tissue?
Neurons and Neuraglia
What is the function of a neuron?
To transmit messages and detect stimuli
What is the function of the neuroglia cells
To protect and assist neurons
What are the three types of muscular tissue
Skeletal, cardiac and smooth
Where is skeletal muscular tissue located
Anywhere where muscle attaches to the bone
Where is cardiac muscle tissue located
On the heart
Where is smooth muscle tissue located
In the digestive system (Oesophagus, Stomach and intestines)
What is the function of muscular tissue
Movement and changing size
What is the function of epithelial tissue
To cover, secrete or protect something
What are the eight types of epithelial tissue
Simple Squamous, Stratified squamous, simple cuboidal, stratified cuboidal, simple columnar, stratified columnar, pseudostratified and transitional
What is the primary function of simple epithelial tissue
Secretion
What is the primary function of stratified epithelial tissue
Protection
What is the function of transitional epithelial tissue
Stretchiness
Where is simple squamous tissue found?
Alveoli (lungs)
Where is simple cuboidal tissue found?
Kidney (renal tubles)
Where is simple columnar tissue found?
Bronchi or uterus
Where is pseudostratified tissue found
Trachea
Where is stratified squamous tissue found?
Mouth, Vagina
Where is stratified cuboidal tissue found?
Sweat ducts
Where is stratified columnar tissue found?
Uretha
Where is translational tissue found
Bladder
What is are the purposes of connective tissue
Structure, support and transport
What does connective tissue include
Blood and bones
