Tissues Flashcards
Simple Columnar Epithelium
- Single-layered columnar epithelium that can absorb and secrete
- Found in stomach and intestines
Simple Squamous Epithelium
- Delicate single-layered flat-celled epithelium
2. Found in alveoli of lungs and lining blood vessels
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
- Cancerous masses composed of squamous epithelium that are locally invasive and may metastisize
- Occur mostly on conjunctiva, skin surface, urogenital tissue, mouth, and stomach
Stratified Cuboidal Epithelium
- Multilayered cube-shaped epithelium
2. Found in excretory tracts
Simple Cuboidal Epithelium
- Single-layered cube-shaped epithelium that aids in secretion
- Found in ovaries and ducts
Squamous Cells
Flat cells that make up squamous epithelium
Transitional Epithelium
- Epithelium that can stretch and contract without damage and can appear squamous, cuboidal, or columnar
- Found lining the bladder and ureters
Simple Epithelium
Epithelium composed of a single layer of cells
Polar
Having defined direction
Cuboidal Epithelium
Epithelium composed of cuboidal cells
Columnar Epithelium
Epithelium composed of columnar cells
Stratified Squamous Epithelium
- Epithelial tissue composed of multiple layers of flat squamous cells that can regenerate rapidly
- Found in epidermis, vagina, mouth, and anus
Stratified Epithelium
Epithelium composed of layers of cells
Squamous Epithelium
Epithelium composed of squamous cells
Simple Ciliated Columnar Epithelium
- Single-layered columnar epithelium containing cilia
2. Found in oviduct
