Tissue Aggregates Flashcards
Tissue Aggregates
Elementary tissues are combined to form larger structures
Fascia
sheet like membrane around organs. When it is around muscles it is called Perimysium.
Ligaments
binding together two structures.
Visceral ligaments: hold organs in place
skeletal ligaments: connect bones to bones
Tendons
attach muscle to bone or cartilage. Parallel fibers. sometimes take on shape of muscles they connect to.
Sheet like tendon is called Aponeurosis.
bones
provide rigid support for the body. protect organs and soft tissues.
outer layer - periosteum
bones start out as cartilage and gradually ossify during childhood.
Joints
Connect bone to bone or cartilage to cartilage. Classified based on the degree of movement.
Diarthrodial joints
permit maximum mobility
Amphiarthrodial joints
permit limited mobility
Synarthrodial joints
permit no mobility. fibrous.
Suture Joints
Fibrous Joints between bones of a skull not intended to move.
Gomphosis joints
Fibrous joint in which a peg fits into a hole. Teeth for example.
Muscles
Bound groups of muscle fibers with anatomic utility.
covered by fascia
Have blood supply to support metabolic activity/remove waste
Have neural supply: efferent, afferent
Efferent
motor fibers that signal muscle contraction
Afferent
Sensory fibers that indicate status of muscle to nervous system
