Time Study (TEST 1) Flashcards
What is the goal of a time study
to determine the normal time of a task
Time study steps
- Method Analysis
- Operator Selection
- Timing
- Rating
What is Method Analysis
It is the process of breaking down a job into pieces “elements” and seeing if they are in the right order
Why are elements important
Allows the reuse of parts of the study, even if the job changes
Allows for different ratings for different parts of the job
Elements can be compared across studies to check accuracy/validity
Elements improve method descriptions
If operator changes method, data may still be useful
Therbligs were created by who
Lillian and Frank Gilbreth
What are therbligs
micro elements
Why use therbligs
beneficial for finding wasted motion
How we use therbligs
Help identify elements for a time study
Basis for predetermined time systems (MTM & MOST)
Classification of therbligs
Some are effective and some are waste
What is operator selection
It is selecting an operator who reflects an average experienced worker for the sake of rating accuracy and worker acceptance of the standard
Stopwatch Techniques
Continuous vs Snapback
