Throttles and Pressure Control Flashcards
Class 1 Governor
Two stage engines purchased before 2008
PDP Disruptions
- Opening/closing of nozzles
- Changing from Tank Supply to Hydrant Supply
PSI Mode
- Pumping handlines
- Pumping ladder pipes/ground monitors
- Supplying sprinkler/standpipe systems
Pressure sensor is disabled at 300 PSI; switch to RPM in High Rise scenario as needed or for PSI mode malfunction
RPM mode
- Drafting
- Relay pumping
- Charging 5” hose
- PSI mode malfunction
Other than rapid pressure increases in excess of 30 PSI, there is NO pressure protection in RPM mode
Governor Operation
- Engage pump
- Open TANK TO PUMP
- Open appropriate discharge valve
- Operate governor
PSI Presets
Engine - 110 PSI
Tanker - 50 PSI
1100 RPM for both Engine and Tanker
Idle Discharge Pressure
30 PSI to 40 PSI
If the pump cannot maintain 30 PSI PDP …
… the governor will return to RPM to idle; cavitation safeguard
Supply Deck Gun from Booster Tank …
… use Fog Nozzle at 500 GPM or 1-1/4’ or 1-3/8” tip
Residual Pressure Below 10 PSI …
… governor will return to idle
