Q

3% Mil-Spec AFFF

A

Following Companies carry this in their foam tanks:

Engine 7/Engine 21 - built in foam proportioners and tanks

Station 16 and 56 - Aviation is a non-polar hydrocarbon fuel very similar to kerosene

Foam 37 and 371 - Tankers respond city wide, main purpose is to protect Navy Fuel Depot w/aviation fuel. Each Tanker carries 1800 gallons of foam concentrate

*Mil-Spec 3% AFFF IS NOT compatible w/AR-AFFF and should never be mixed. Never add AR-AFFF to any apparatus foam tank

Q

Guidlines for Foam use

A
  • Set Foam eductor to match foam concentrate (ex. 3% setting for 3% concentrate)
  • Max distance between eductor and nozzle:
    75 PSI nozzle - 250ft
    100 PSI nozzle - 150ft
*Increase distance w/gated wye and 2-1/2” hose
  • Nozzle GPM will match eductor GPM (125); bale must be fully open at all times
  • Foam eductor requires inlet pressure of 200 PSI; nozzle pressure will not be lost due to FL within foam eductor
