Preventative Maintenance Flashcards
1
Q
Minimum Tread Depth
A
4/32” or when tread wear indicators are even w/tire tread
2
Q
With pump engaged and Tank-To-Pump valve open:
A
- Verify pressure on master discharge gauge
- Operate primer till water is discharged
- Ensure proper operation of governor in PSI and RPM mode
- Ensure proper operation of transfer valve (if equipped)
- Operate electric intake valves fully-open to fully-closed
- Discharge water from at least one discharge opening
- Open and close each 5” intake valve, remove cap to drain
3
Q
Open Pump Drain Valve
A
… briefly to flush sediment from the lowest level of the pump
4
Q
Portable O2
A
> 1000 PSI and adjuncts are stocked
5
Q
Air Chisel
A
> 4000 PSI. Do NOT trigger unless in contact w/solid material
6
Q
Chainsaw
A
- Chain is sharp, properly adjusted, fuel and oil levels are full; USE MOTOR OIL for BAR LUBRICANT
7
Q
Hydraulic Spreaders
A
- Store with 1/2” gap between tips
8
Q
Roll Up Door Tracks
A

Q
Weekly Pump Service
A
- Remove caps, elbows, wyes; apply GREASE as needed; replace gaskets if needed; ensure strainers are present in 2-1/2’ INTAKES
- Intake valve removed and cleaned; if swivel doesn’t move freely, apply soapy water and work until loose
- Steamer intake strains function as anode protecting pump housing from rust, inspect; must fit tightly within pipe
- Back-flush pump; pump disengaged, pressurize DISCHARGE side of pump from hydrant; open each intake/discharge to flush (except crosslay piping)

Q
Weekly Equipment Checks
A
- Axes: check head for tightness/handles for damage; soap/water to clean, dry thoroughly; light oil to steel surfaces/moving parts; LINSEED OIL to WOOD handles
- Ladders: soapy water, manipulate all moving parts; heat indicators for discoloration; inspect entire ladder for damage; light oil sparingly on roof hooks; rinse dirt/debris from ladder compartment
- Nozzles: soapy water/soft brush; immerse in warm soapy water/operate all moving parts; NO LUBE
- Swivels: if frozen or stiff, use warm soapy water
- Air Tools: soapy water, dry thoroughly; lubricate each blade w/light oil; 5 drops of air tool oil INTO BLADE END
- High-Lift Jack: soapy water/dry thoroughly; wipe down ENTIRE tool w/light oil; inspect jack for bent or damaged components
- Chains (6ft/12ft/15ft): soapy water/dry thoroughly; wiped down length of chain sparingly w/light oil; inspect links for damage/corrosion
- Come-Along: clean w/dry cloth; light oil sparingly on moving parts; inspect cable for broken strands, corrosion, or wear; NO LUBE ON WIRE ROPE; if wire rope gets wet/exposed to moisture, dry thoroughly; inspect handle for straightness
