Thoracic Restriction Flashcards
Normal Campbell diagram
Lung V increasses with negative pressure
Chest wall with positive
Curves meet at FRC
Decreased static lung compliance effect
This could be in pulmonary fibrosis
Lowers the FRC and therefore lower lung volumes
Takes more neg pressure to get same amount of volume
Decreased chest wall static ocmpliance
Decreased FRC
Obesity
Both lung volumes small with clear lungs
NM weakness
Reduced muscle power leads to reduced lung inflation but FRC is NOT changed
Lower lung volumes with normal marking
Pleural disease
Pleural fluid will compress lung and limit expansion
Atelectasis
Collapse of left lung will produce some right lung hyperexpansion but does not fully compensate
Psuedorestriction
AIrflow obstruction
Will actually appear larger
Larger TLC, but the FVC reduced due to high RV
FEV/FVC ratio lower than .75 means obstruction
