Bohr Effect on Oxygen Delivery to Tissue Flashcards
What shifts curve to the right
Increase temp (feer or exeercise), increase DPG (chronic lung dz), increase PCO2, decreased pH
MEans that less oxygen bound at same oxygen pressure as before
Bohr effect with normal physiology
The venous pCO2 is higher than the arterial CO2…this means that the curve is shifted to the right
This means there is an increase in O2 delivered to cells due to the Bohr effect
Can also use graph to see total amount of O2 delivered
During exercise
The PCO2 is even higher AND the O2 concentration is lower (in venous) so the difference in the amount of oxygen delivered is even higher
Summarize Bohr effect
Facilitates O2 uptake in the lavolar capillaries and the O2 delivery in the peripheral tissue capillaries
Effect is more pronounced during exercise and in patients with lung dzs
