Dyspnea Flashcards
Dyspnea causes
Disconnect between expected work of brething and system output (chest distension and airflow)
Hypercarbia
Hypoxemia
Other things abput dyspnea
Sensation
Exertion should WORSEN…this is how to distinguihs from psychological
Pts accomodate to chronic states…but sensitive to acute
Difference between expected output and actual output
BS resp center has system output to resp apparatus…this directly feeds back on BS resp center…BS resp also in connection with higher centers…resp appratus then has relationship with chemoreceptors
that feedback on BS
Basically the higher centers sense the increased output from the resp centers
What happens to ventilation rate in both hypercapnea and hypoxia
In hypercapnea, the respiration rate will increase…this is augmented by hypoxia
Hypoxia alone oes not have much of an effect
