- Add-on treatment HTN
What is the mechanism of action of thiazide diuretics?

What section of the nephron do thiazide diuretics act on?
Distal convoluted tubule
What are adverse side effects of thiazide diuretics?

- Hypokalaemia
- Increased glucose
- Increased LDL-cholesterol
- Increased triglycerides
- Impotence
When are thiazides contraindicated for use?
Hypokalaemia

What are examples of thiazide diuretics?
- Bendroflumathiazide
- Indapamide
- Clortalidone
Why can using ACEi and thiazide diuretics together be very useful for treating hypertension?
Can lower BP plus maintain neutral potassium balance due to their opposite effects on potassium levels
