Q

How do 5alpha-reductase inhibitors work?

A

Inhibit the intracellular enzyme 5alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone to its more active metabolite dihydrotestosterone. This stimulates prostatic growth, and thus its effects are blocked by 5a-reductase inhibitors
