thermoregulation Flashcards
1
Q
what is homeostasis?
A
maintaning a constant internal enviromentt
2
Q
what is vasoconstriction?
A
blood vessels narrow at the surface in cold temp. to reduce heat loss, blood flow is reduuced at the surface of the skin.
3
Q
what is vasodilation?
A
blood vessels widen at the surface of the skin in hot conditions. increases heat loss and help cause sweating. blood flow increases.
4
Q
why do water molecules help you cool down?
A
sweating - they require energy, the heat energy from the blood vessels near th skin due to vasodilation which makes the heat radiate from the blood via sweat.
5
Q
goosebumps:
A
make your hair stand on end to trap air between them in an insulating layer.
