the digestive system Flashcards
what is the order of the organs?
salivary glands oesephagus liver stomach pancreas small intestine large intestne rectum anus
amylase
turn starch to glucose, made in the pancrease used in the mouth.
where are most enzymes made
pancreas
protease
works in the stomach increases th breakdown of proteins to amino acids.
lipase
works in the small intestine turns lipids to fatty acids
which acid is found in the stomach?
hydrochloric acid.
mouth and salivary glands
breaking down food, mechanical digestion with teeth and chemical with enzyme: amylase
oesphagus
peristalsis hapens here, a large muscular tube whichh moves ingesed food to the stomach
liver
produces bile, (alkaline)
gall bladder
stores bile
stomach
muscular organ where digestion continuess, mechancal: stomach walls contract, chemical: hydrochloric acid.
small intestine
bile released here, absorption of good molecules eg.glucose, into the the blood.
large intestine
water absorption peristalsis, faeces is ormed from the rremaining food. this is egested from the body.
pancreas
enzymes + insulin made here.
what is absorption?
Digested food molecules are absorbed in the small intestine. This means that they pass through the wall of the small intestine and into our bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, the digested food molecules are carried around the body to where they are needed.
what is assimilation?
the digested food must be moved from the digestive system into the blood system for movement around the body. This process is called ABSORPTION and it occurs in the small intestine.
