Explain wish fulfilment

A

Freud believed dreams were the royal road to the unconscious and were the fulfilment of Desires that could not be satisfied through the conscious mind. Dreams protect the sleeper and allow expression of buried urges and desires

A

Where several ideas are condensed / are merged together to form one image.

A

The emotional significance of the dream object is projected onto another object or person to protect our mind. E.g. fall out with parents = an assassin trying to kill the king

A

Fitting all the items of a dream together to make sense and to form a logical story. This can be a mix of real life past events to further disguise the latent content

What is the role of the therapy in DA

A

They reverse the dream work process and provide various interpretations based on the clients feedback and knowledge of the clients life. The client makes the final choice of the interpretation that makes the most sense taking into consideration their personal circumstances

What is a dream diary

A

A dream diary is where the client records aspects of their dream every night. It should include as much detail as possible and include thoughts memories and associations that come to mine in relation of the dream

What assumptions can you apply

A

Unconscious mind - DA uncovers that
Childhood experiences - trauma and behaviour uncovered
Tripartite personality - the ID has controll during dreams allowing desires to be acted upon

What are the effectiveness points for Dream analysis

A

All open to interpretation by the therapist so they can distort / different therapists will say different things

This is based of the report of the dream from the client which may not be accurate leading to inaccurate conclusions

A
