What is the definition of theory construction?
Set of general laws or principles that explain specific events or behaviours (an explanation of some aspect of the world).
Why is theory construction important?
It allows us to predict how people are likely to respond in certain situations during observations and tests.
What is hypothesis testing?
A scientific theory must be able to generate testable expectations/ predictions which can be stated in a hypothesis.
What is the purpose of hypothesis testing?
It allows the theory to be modified if it fails to support the hypothesis and improve its validity.
What is a null hypothesis?
A negative version of the research hypothesis as it states that there will be no effect (no significant difference/ correlation).
