It should outline what the study involves and how long it takes before asking for their consent to take part.
Full instructions can be given once the participant has consented.
When is a debriefing statement readout?
After the study has taken place.
What should be included in a debriefing statement?
- Thank the participant for taking part.
- Tell them the aim of the research.
- Ethical considerations (right to withdraw and ensuring anonymity).
- Check whether they have any questions.
- Offer counselling if any harm was involved.
What should be considered when asked to design a study?
- Methods used.
- Sample used.
- Experimental design used.
- Possible EVs and how to control them.
- Possible ethical issues how to tackle them.
- What data is gathered and how it will be analysed.
