Eriksons theory of psychosocial development
Maintains the human life cycle has 8 ego development stages span from birth to death. Psychosocial crisis occurs for each stage and objective is to integrate demands of physical growth maturation and society.

First to label hidden area of mind as the unconscious mind
Founder of cognitive psychology. Studied the basis for development of the mind as well as learning and cognition. Theory holds that motor activity is stimulated by mental development and growth

Stages of grief and loss
Stage 1- shock and disbelief
Stage 2- experiencing the loss (survivor feels angry bargains and suffers depression)
Stage 3- reintegration- survivor reorganizes life and accepts reality
Self defense mechanisms
- Denial- avoiding problem
- Displacement-transfer feelings against someone or something else
- Intellectualization- expressive thinking and logic adoption to avoid uncomfortable feelings
- Projection- assignment of feelings or motivation to another person, place or thing
- Rationalization- giving logical and acceptable explanations to hide a feeling, concern or motive that is not socially acceptable
- Regression- going back to old behavior
