Cells Flashcards
Colloidal substance in a cell that holds structures in place
Cytoplasm
The center of a cell that contains DNA
Nucleus
Small structure inside of the nucleus that contain rna and chromosomes
Nucleolus
Rod shaped material in the cytoplasm
Centrioles
Hair like process on the cell surface
Cilia
Whip like processes on the cell surface that allow movement
Flagella
Process where one cell splits into two identical cells
Cell division
Three phases of cell division
Interphase- DNA duplicated and chromosomes double
Mitosis- four phases of cell division
Prophase - centrioles move to opposite ends of cells and form two poles
Types of cell movement
Diffusion- movement of molecules from and Area of high concentration to low concentration
Osmosis- water diffusion through a semipermeable membrane
Filtration- movement of water and materials through one side of a membrane
Active transport- movement of molecules from area of low concentration to high concentration
Phagocytosis- ingestion and digestion of bacteria
