What was Lamarck’s theory?
A
Every type of animal evolved from primitive worms and the change from worms was caused by the inheritance of acquired characteristics. A case of use it or lose it.

What were the problems with Lamarck’s idea?
A
There was no evidence for his fountain of life and people didn’t like the idea of being descended from worms. Moreover people could see clearly that changes in their bodies - such as big muscles - were not passed onto their children.

What is Darwin’s idea?
A
Evolution has come about by the process of natural selection.

Why wasn’t Darwin’s idea accepted at the time?
A
No one knew about genes, it challenged the idea of God which was the accepted belief at the time.
