Why do animals need to compete?
In any area there is a limited amount of food, water and space, and a limited number of mates.
What do animals compete for?
Food, territory, mates.
How are herbivores likely to be successful?
The animal that eats a wide range of plants as an animal with a wider taste will eat something else if something dies out.
How are carnivores successful?
The animals which is best adapted to the area will be the most successful.
How do prey compete?
Their adaptions help prevent them from becoming a meal for a predator.
What is an example of an adaptation of prey?
Some animals contain poisons which makes everything that eats them sick or even kills them.
Why do animals compete for territory?
It is a space needed to find food and reproduce. Without territory many animals cannot reproduce successfully.
How do animals compete for mates?
Some species fight for the privilege to be with the female. Other try to get the attention of the female by having spectacular adaptations such as peacocks, who have the most amazing tale feathers.
What makes a successful predator?
An animal that is adapted to be better at finding food or a mate than other members of its own species.
