Advantages of mayo’s theory
- Less stress between workers
- Increased quality of work due to employees being motivated
Disadvantages of Mayo’s theory
- It’s hard to make all jobs interesting
- Not all workers like homework
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
- He believed workers have needs they need to fulfil at work
- Therefore managers should treat their as individuals with different needs and aspirations
- These were made into a hierarchy as he believed the needs at the bottom need to be satisfied first in order to fulfil the top
The hierarchy of needs
1) psychological needs- through pay and warm and dry environment
2) safety- apply proper health and safety policy and provide employees with contact of employment
3) Love and belonging- opportunity to work in groups and social and sporting facilities
4) Esteem- delegating responsibilities to workers below you and offering opportunities for promotion
5) Self actualisation- providing opportunities to take on responsibilities and develop new skills
