TheBrain Flashcards
what is the cerebrum
It controls voluntary actions and our consciousness and thoughts. It also controls memory and learning and personality
what is the cerebellum
More roles in coordination of muscular control, balance and posture
what does the cerebllum work closely with
the cerebrum - to have a better control of our motions and motor control. E.g. if you were to fall over, your cerebellum would stabilise you but then your cerebrum would consciously move you away to better balance yourlsed
what is the medulla oblongata
has roles in autonomic control i.e heart rate, ventilation.
whats the hypothalamus
main function is homeostasis - this monitors our internal environment, and produces hormones to coordinate them at a stable level. Homeostais is done by the nervous and hormonal system cooperating with each other. It is the main control of the autonomic nervous system - symapthetic and parasympathetic
what is the pituitary gland
Consists of the posterior and anterior. The anterior is one in front, posterior at the back. Anterior produces hormones like FSH. The posterior is closer to hypothalamus so it can store and release hormones made by the hypothalamus like ADH.
