DNA sequencing Flashcards
What are the two fast ways of DNQ sequencing
High throughout sequencing and Next generation sequencing.
Both use massively parallel sequencing where multiple sets of DNA are sequences together at the same time
What is bioinformatics
Software developed to process and understand large complex data
Allows access to large amounts of data on DNA
Advantages bioinformatics
- Information is universal (ATGC)
- Allows for rapid comparison of sequences with newly sequenced alleles
- data on amino acid sequences and protein structures
- can form new protein structures
What is synthetic biology
Redesigning organisms for useful purposes through engineering I.e. medicine and stuff
How is DNA sequencing useful in epidemiology
- can Identify the source of the outbreak
- Identify vulnerable populations
- Design vaccines
What is proteomics
Large scale study of a set of proteins produced in an organism, system or biological context
Why do we compare genomes
It’s universal and can do it across all species
Can use it for phylogeny and lol at evolutionary relationships. The more similar the sequences, the more close they are related. Can compare between and within species
