Q

What is the nervous pathway

A

Receptor receives stimulus -> sensory neurone -> CNS which has relay neurons -> motor neurone -> effector (muscles or glands)

Q

What are the general structures of a neurone

A

Dendron - sends impulse to cell body
Cell body - releases neurotransmitters
Axon - sends impulses away from cell body
Myelin sheath - layers of plasma membranes (lipids) speeds up nervous transmission

Q

Sensory neurone structure

A

Dendrites to receive impulse from receptors which pass along the dendron to the cell body. After they get sent along axon and into the axon terminals. Blud also has myelin sheath. Impulse jumps along nodes of ranvier

Q

Structur motor neurone

A

Cell body is at the beginning of the neurone with dendrites coming out. Dendrites receive impulses from relay in to the cell body, where it goes through the axon which branches off into axon terminals. It also has myelin sheath and nodes of Ranvier

Q

Relay neurone structure

A

Cell body in middle - dendrites on one side of cell body, axons on the other side of the cell body which relays signal to motor neurone

Q

Structure and function of myelin sheath

A

Layers of lipids that insulates axon, speeding up nerve impulse transmission - when it travels from one node to smother is saltatory conduction. It’s also made up of Schwann cells
