What is the Internet?
The Internet is a worldwide network of computers which allows us to communicate with one another to share information
What is the World Wide Web?
An information system on the Internet that allows documents to be connected to other documents by hyperlinks
What is a Web Browser?
A program that helps you to navigate the World Wide Web
What is a Search Engine?
It is used to look for web pages
What is a Uniform Resource Locator?
It uniquely identifies a web page
What is HyperText Markup Language?
The language that is used to create web pages
What is HyperText Transfer Protocol?
This is used to transport web pages over the Internet
What navigation features are often used in Web Browsers? (3)
Back, Forward and Home buttons
Why are hyperlinks used?
To prevent the need to type in a URL each time you want to access a particular web page
What is an Internal hyperlink? What is an External hyperlink?
- Internal hyperlinks move the user to another web page within the same web site
- External hyperlinks move the user to another web page not within the same web site
What is a Relative address? What is an Absolute address?
- A Relative address will only include partial information on the resource being accessed
- An Absolute address will include the full address of the remote resource
