Networks & Security - Client-Server Network/Peer-to-peer Network Flashcards
What is a client? What is a server?
- A client is a workstation operated by a user
* A server is a computer that controls a resource that it makes available to clients on the network
How are resources shared on a CSN?
All resources on the network are managed by the servers, which will provide access to resources to clients
How are files stored on a CSN?
Data is stored centrally on a server
Why is security easier to manage on a CSN?
It will be managed centrally by a server holding all security data and software
Where is a CSN normally used?
Businesses and organisations
What is a peer-to-peer network?
A network in which computers are managed independently of each other
How are resources shared on a peer-to-peer network?
Each workstation can make its resources available to other workstations on the network
How are files stored on a peer-to-peer network?
Each workstation stores its data on a local hard drive or optical storage device
Why is security more difficult to manage on a peer-to-peer network?
There is no mechanism for centrally managing access to the network
Where is a peer-to-peer network normally used?
A trusting environment such as a family home
