The English verb “to know” has two different translations in French:
savoir and connaÎtre. Savoir is used to indicate to know how to do
something orto have a skill acquired through the repetition of an act.
ConnaÎtre, on the other hand, implies familiarity with a persan or place.
ln this chapter we will concentrate on savoir. ConnaÎtre will be dealt
with in a later lesson.
