1st stage
first reading: avalible to MP’s but not debated or voted on
2nd stage
principle of bill is debated and a vote may be taken if contested
committee stage
bill is scrutinised by public bill committee whose members reflect party strength in parliment.
report stage
whole house considers amendments made at the committee stage and may reject them
third reading
amended bill is debated and voted on by the whole house
HOL stage
-bill goes through same stage as HOC
-lords proposes amendmants
-commons decide whether to accept or not
royal assent
Monarch signs the bill making it a law.
goverment/ public bill
- the most important goverment propasal
-brought forward by goverment ministers to change public policy

private bill
-much less common and sponsered by companys
-or an LA with intention of changing the law that affects a group affected by a bill

Hyrid bill
- has charateristics of both private and public bills.
-proposes changed to laws that affect a certain group of people
high speed rail (london- west midland act 2017)
Private members bill
- affects the whole population and introducted by an MP or Lord
-less likely as depends on time to complete the bill
-drawn out of a ballot
-20 MP’s are drawn out of a ballot to introduce during ten minutes rule.

legslative bill
-proposal for a new law or to change an exsisting law
-can be introducted in HOL and HOC
