direct democracy
-in which individuals express their opinion themselves

-people elect reprsentatives who take decision on behalf
pluralistic democracy
-a type of democracy in which the goverment makes decision as a result of the interplay of various ideas and constrasting arguments from competing opportunities
advantages
-encourages popular participation develops sense of community
-removes need to be trusted representive
-removes need to be trusted representatives citizens take responsibility
disadvantage
-impractical in large heavily populated modern state
-many people will not feel qualified to open to manipulation by good orators
another advantage
-only practical system in large modern state
-politicans form parties which brings choice to people
-reduces chance od minority being overridden. elections make policitans accountable
another disadvantage
-not all votes have due to different sizes of constintituences
-may leader to voter fatigue
-parties and pressure groups run by elite
