House of lords reform 2010 ?
-plans for mainly elected HOL blocked by 91 backbench tory MP’s
-lib dems blocked reducing number of MP’s from 650 to 600
-after 2017 the goverment said this would go ahead for 2020 election but it got called early
electoral reform 2010?
-AV referendum 68% voted against. Vote seemed to be more of a protest against lib dem than reform itself.
-conservative wanted to introduce british bill of rights instead of eu convention
The recall of MP’s act ?
-if an MP is sent to custodial sentence or suspended from HOC for more than 21 days a by-election is triggered if at least 10% of consituents sign a petition
- a by election will be held in parliment constituency of peterborough on 6th june 2019 for the removal of labour MP fiona onasanyna throug a recall petition.
devoultion ?
-referendum in march 2011 about devolving further law making
-2014 independance referendum:55%to stay
-england votes for english laws:housing bills 2016
fixed term parliment act 2011
-new parliment must be elected every 5 years if priminister loses votes of confidence
-Theresa may got round this in 2017 as oppostion didnt want be seen as week
