What happened in the Spanish Armada?
In 1588, a war between Spain (catholics) and England (Protestants). The king of Spain at the time was King Philip II and the queen of England was Queen Elizabeth I. Philip II was angry because England had suddenly changed religions - from catholic to Protestant, so he sent his army of ships (Spanish armada) to attack England. London was warned that the armada was coming and they put beacons across the coast to warn everyone. England sent ships after the armada and they started to chase them. England then sent burning ships to spain as bombs whilst the spanish were still being chased across the Atlantic Ocean. The spanish fled to Scotland but encountered a storm on the coasts of Scotland, some soldiers survived the storm and came to the shore but they were killed by Elizabeth’s army. Less than half of the spanish ships return, Elizabeth’s throne is safe and spain never attempt another invasion.
