What happened with Magellan?
He leads a voyage from spain across the world to find spices. He discovered many places including the pacific ocean. He was sort of a hero because he managed to get sailors around the world. However, as a captain he was very cruel to his sailors that were starving and they wanted to go back to spain. One of his failures was killing more than half of his sailors (270 of them left and only 18 came back, Magellan died on the voyage being shot). Many of his crew didn’t like him because he was actually Portuguese but the Spanish monarchy wanted him to lead the voyage because Portugal controlled the route east which Spain needed to get to the spices that were only able to get there. He was the first ever European to cross the Pacific Ocean.
