Enlightenment ideas:

- In Europe many people in the 1700s were starting to think that the monarchy and the Church should not hold all the power, the middle stairs it was not fair NOT the 3rd state
- These new ideas grew when thinkers called philosophers started to write books.
- They applied science and logic to the world’s problems
- Many people started to think that they should change their government, they wanted to give power to the people

Inequality and economic problems:

- they three Estes were very unequal, mostly because they had to pay most of the taxes, 3rd wanted change
- the nobility could by positions in France
- the king has absolute power, which meant he could throw anyone he did it’s like into prison
- in the 1780s, there were many bad harvest and people didn’t have enough to eat, people in Paris were starving
- many workers spend 90% of their salary on bread
- hints got really bad in 1788 and workers rioted ‘flour wars’ where they attacked bakeries, meanwhile, the king was in lots of debt due to his participation with the war against the British in America. He also has very little income to second and First estates paying hardly any taxes.
