RULING: A, 1/10, B-14, Ready.
Since the roughing the passer foul by B55 is a personal foul and is committed during a legal forward pass
play and the run ends beyond the neutral zone, the penalty is added to the end of the run by A80 (Rule 9-1 PENALTY). The penalty will be half the distance to the goal from the B-28.
3/5 @ A-30. B21 was disqualified late in the 3rd quarter for Targeting and legally remains in the team area. QB A12 looks for a receiver, scrambles and runs out of bounds on Team B’s sideline at the A-33. B21 is flagged in the team area for Unsportsmanlike Conduct as he taunts A12.
RULING: A, 1/10, A-48, Ready.
The action by B21 is a dead ball foul for Unsportsmanlike Conduct and includes a 15-yard penalty from the succeeding spot and an automatic first down for Team A. B21 is ejected from the game and must leave the playing enclosure under team supervision. Any player that has been disqualified and is subsequently penalized for Unsportsmanlike Conduct is automatically ejected (AR 2-27-12 III).
1/10 @ B-15. The score is tied during the second possession series of the first extra period. B25 intercepts a pass at the B-10 and carries the ball across Team A’s goal line. During B25’s run, B79 commits an illegal blind side block at midfield.
RULING: The 1st possession series of the 2nd extra period will begin at the 25-yard line. The score by B25 is cancelled and the next period will start with first and 10 at the 25-yard line, since the penalty by B79 is not carried over (Rules 3-1-3-g-1 & 2).
1/10 @ B-15. During the first possession series of the first extra period, B37 intercepts a forward
pass at the B-10 and has a clear field to the goal line when he makes an obscene gesture toward the nearest opponent at midfield. B37 continues into the end zone for a touchdown.
RULING: B, 1/10, 40-yard line, No Clock. The first possession series is over and the score by B37 is canceled. The 15-yard penalty is carried over
to the second possession series since the foul is unsportsmanlike conduct (Rules 3-1-3-g-1 & 2). Team B will begin its possession series after the 15-yard penalty.
4/10 @ B-25. After the snap A12 is holding the ball for a place kick at the B-32. As kicker A90 approaches the ball, B55 bats the ball from A12’s hands. The ball is recovered by B80 at the B-45 where he is down.
RULING: B, 1/10, B-45, Snap.
The batting by B55 is legal and results in a fumble and the ball remains alive (Rule 4-1-3-b Exception). The recovery by B80 is legal and Team B will gain possession and next put the ball in play at the B-45.
1/10 @ A-35. QB A12 takes the snap and drops back to pass. A12 scrambles outside the tackle box,
and he fumbles the ball at the A-30, which bounces directly back up into his hands. A12 then passes the ball forward from the A-33, and the ball lands at the A-45 in an open area where there are no eligible receivers with an opportunity to make a catch
RULING: A, 2/10, A-35, Snap.
The pass by A12 is legal since A12 did not relinquish possession to another player and the pass was from outside the tackle box and landed beyond the neutral zone (Rule 7-3-2-h Exception).
Try @ B-3. Kicker A90’s kick is partially blocked by B55 who leaps straight up from his position at the B-2. B19 is the first player beyond the neutral zone to touch Team A’s partially blocked kick try when B19 muffs the in-flight kick 2-yards deep the end zone. The kick then bounces in the end zone and A66 recovers the ball while it is still in the end zone.
RULING: Touchdown for A66, 2 points for Team A. A, Free Kick, A-35, FK Rules. The touching of the kick by B55 is considered to have occurred behind the neutral zone and is ignored
after the ball crosses the neutral zone (Rule 6-3-1-b). B19 muffs the kick before the kick touches the ground in the end zone, so the ball remains live (Rules 6-3-3 & 6-3-9). The recovery by A66 is legal and results in a 2-point touchdown (Rule 8-1-1).
3/Goal @ B-8. B21 intercepts QB A12’s legal forward pass deep in his end zone and advances but does not get out of the end zone, where he is downed 5-yards deep in the end zone. During B21’s run, B55 holds A80 2-yards deep in the end zone
RULING: Safety, score 2 points for Team A. B, Free Kick, B-20, FK Rules.
The result of the play is a touchback since the pass by Team A was the initial impetus for the ball being in
the end zone (Rule 8-7-1). The foul by B55 was in the end zone, and the penalty leaves the ball in Team B’s possession in the end zone and results in a Safety (Rule 8-5-1-b).
1/10 @ B-30. Early in the 3rd quarter, QBA1 is hit as he throws a pass to receiver A80 near the sideline
at the B-18. The Field Judge rules the pass incomplete signaling that A80 was out of bounds. There is a flag down on the play and the Referee announces roughing the passer on B78. Replays show B78 lead with his head and attack with the crown of the helmet to A1’s chest with force and A80 gain firm control of the ball with his left foot down in bounds before falling to the ground where he maintains control.
RULING: A, 1/Goal, B-9, Ready - DQ B78. Replay must look at all reviewable aspects of the play which in this situation include potential targeting and catch/no catch at the sideline. B76 attacks with the crown of the helmet so it is targeting, and replay should add the foul and B78 is disqualified. A80 did complete the catch so replay must give the Referee the spot of the catch and the penalty is enforced
half the distance to the goal line.
4/5 at B-35. Early in the 2nd quarter, A1 completes a pass to back A2 who runs to the B-31 where he is hit and loses the football. B56 recovers the loose ball and is downed at the B-30. The officials rule fumble and signal Team B’s ball. A2’s right knee may have been down before the ball came loose.
RULING: B, 1/10, B-30, Snap. Although this is a turnover replay should not stop the game as the difference will be one yard of field position for Team B. Since it was 4th down and A2 did not make the line to gain before he lost the football there is no significant competitive effect. Had this not been 4th down or A2 had made the line to gain before he lost the football then replay must stop the game to review whether A2 was down.
